Carnival comes to a crashing halt, but Mardi Gras never truly ends in New Orleans. The celebration stops at some point on Fat Tuesday and then you wake up to Ash Wednesday and it’s all over. But not really, not in our minds and in our planning and in the way we set up our schedule. There is always the next costume, the next ride, the next march, the next season. There will be a last one, and we hope we never see it coming...
Along with photography I have started working with a 360 video camera. This is a 55 min edit of clips leading up to Mardi Gras Day.

Raymond Bowie, 62, works on a Rex float in the heat of mid August 2017. Bowie has been painting carnival floats for 35 years.

Members of Wild Opelousas sew as a group after school on September 5, 2017. Along with help from younger classmates on smaller patches and weekly after school get togethers, Tribe members sew with at home and often worked with their families to complete the suits in time. They must be ready for the unveiling at their school the Thursday before Mardi Gras, while maintaining good grades.

Studio 3 works on the frame work for the head of a Krewe of Tucks front float prop. Run by Jonathan Bertuccelli the studio produce large speciality props cultivated in the Italian carnival style. Studio 3 notably made Rex's Butterfly King prop and a signature prop for Krewe of Iris' 100th year.

Mrs. Arias reviews with her students what needs to be worked on for the day. Younger students share in craft by sewing smaller patches, while older students with help from family sew the large pieces and attend after school practices to learn about the tradition and prepare to come out as Wild Opelousas.
